The Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, has arrested three ex-convicts for allegedly snatching vehicles from some motorists.
The command spokesperson, CSP Dolapo Badmos, said Toyota Venza, Honda Crosstour and Toyota Highlander were recovered from the suspects.
She identified the men as Tosin Adeoye, John Friday and Adeniji Solomon, adding that two-locally made pistols were recovered from them.
She said, “On October 3, 2018, operatives of the zone, while on a patrol intercepted two vehicles – Toyota Venza and Honda Crosstour. The occupants, however, fled the scene, while the vehicles were moved to the zone.
“On October 19, we received intelligence that some armed robbers had just snatched a Toyota Highlander at the Joju area of Ogun State from a victim who was going to a clinic. Operatives from the Zonal Intervention Squad were immediately deployed for necessary action.
“Consequently, two of the suspected armed robbers – Tosin Adeoye and John Friday – were arrested, while two locally-made double-barrelled pistols with seven live cartridges and the snatched Toyota Highlander were recovered from them. The suspects confessed to have been the gang that fled when intercepted on October 3, and they confessed to have earlier stolen the vehicles recovered from them at gunpoint.”
Badmos said the confessional statement led to the arrest of the third member of the gang, Solomon, adding that suspected receivers of the stolen vehicles – Adewale Bolaji and Moyori Sule, a.k.a Alameda – were also rounded up.
The police spokesperson noted that the three principal suspects, Friday, Adeoye and Solomon, were ex-convicts who met and formed the gang in prison while serving jail terms.
She explained that the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, Adamu Ibrahim, had directed that the suspects be charged to court.
